The whole Exempla Team was involved in making ASIS Europe – From Risk to Resilience 2022 in Prague an exceptional event. There was an incredible buzz from a community that has waited 3 years to get together in person, taken up a level by an all-new interactive programme format that proved a huge hit and made the exchanges even more numerous and valuable.

Associations meet in Brussels for the first BIAF

At BIAF, the first post COVID association event in Brussels, Bénédicte and Michiel, along with Kirsten Epskamp from ENS, facilitated a workshop about event business models and registration pricing strategy. Colm moderated a session on strategic communications presented by Borjana Pervan of the World Heart Federation.

We are seeing a cautious return to in-person meetings. However, with cost cutting as well as sustainability considerations driving a rethink of business travel in large corporates, associations should expect lasting changes to the event landscape. Many international event organisers would be wise to prepare for lower attendance at in-person events whilst maintaining a strong online presence. Michiel explained that while serendipity is more difficult to recreate in online events, it is not impossible and requires event design, platform technology and  attendee mindset to be aligned. Looking ahead at events post-pandemic, Michiel argued that the future of events is hybrid.
